    BIOTEIN™ SC 1% is a pure, unhydrolyzed, high molecular weight, soluble collagen. It is gently extracted from fresh calf skin so as to maintain its native, triple helix state. The molecular weight of this uncross-linked, natural extract is approximately 360,000.

    Collagen comprises 70% of the main structural element in skin and is responsible for its characteristic properties. Young skin, in comparison to aging skin, contains proportionately higher amounts of soluble, uncross-linked collagen versus cross-linked insoluble collagen. The uncross-linked, soluble collagen fibrils are strongly hydrated and elastic, as in young skin. As skin ages, the collagen cross-links and consequently is less capable of hydration and is less elastic. This results in a skin surface with a dry, wrinkled appearance.

    Soluble collagen, because of its superior moisture retentive capabilities, acts naturally to hydrate the skin surface thereby mitigating the effects of aging. Biotein™ SC is an excellent film former and provides a natural, protective, non-occlusive barrier to harsh conditions.

    Tests show the general condition of skin to be significantly improved by the application of Native Soluble Collagen in an emulsion. Resonance frequency tests show that soluble collagen improves the hydration efficiency of skin with a resulting positive influence on wrinkle depth. This product should not be used in formulations containing formaldehyde or its donors. This product is heat sensitive and should be stored and added to formulations at temperatures no higher than 40 ° C.
